History
Haiti was originally inhabited by the Taino, an Arawakan people, who called their island Ayiti. Christopher Columbus "discovered America" when he established the settlement, La Navidad, near the current town of Cap-Haitien. Haiti became the first black republic in 1804. Your trip will include visiting key historical sites that had a profound effect on world history.
Culture
Haiti's culture is based on the contributions of the French, Spanish, African and Taino traditions. Elements of all can be seen in Haiti's architecture, language, music, religion, art and cuisine. You'll visit art galleries and stroll the streets filled with vibrant markets. Along the way, we'll stop for fresh coconut water, Prestige beer, grilled snapper and plantains.
Natural Beauty
Haiti is located between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean - and shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic. Haiti's climate is a combination of tropical and semiarid, with breathtaking mountain vistas. You'll experience Haiti's natural beauty with walks through lush plantations and up mountain paths.
