The earthquake struck just as the Haitian economy was starting to grow again.
Pat Robertson claimed that the quake was divine retribution for "a pact with the devil" that was sworn long ago during the Haitian Revolution. Remember vodou priest Boukman?
Haiti sits above two tectonic plates: the Caribbean plate and the North American plate. They slid past each other and their edges caught. The mounting pressure eventually forced them to grind past each other. That's what caused the earthquake.
So, let’s put that vodou theory to rest!
