Haiti is the most mountainous island in the Caribbean. Haiti’s tallest mountains are Pic la Selle (8,773 feet) and Pic Macaya (7,700 feet). To put it in perspective, Vail Pass in Colorado is about 10,662 feet; the base of Vail Mountain is at 8,120 feet!
Nearly 65% of the land in Haiti is on sloping terrain -- making farming difficult. The best farming is in the lowlands and plains.
Haiti has a tropical climate, and is semiarid in the west.
Average temperature is about 70-80F; at night, temperatures drop 10-20 degrees, with the mountains averaging 10 degrees cooler.
